8.7mn new cell phone users in Jan

India is making a revolution in the mobile industry by adding 8.77 million new subscribers in the month of January 2008 alone. As per the data presented by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the number is a record high in the global market pushing behind China's record of 8.42million. India's leading telecom player, Bharti Airtel Ltd added 2.3 million new mobile phone users in January making its customer base to 57.4 million. Among others Reliance added 1.6 million users, with a total customer base of 42.6 million, and Vodafone Essar Ltd added additional 1.3 million users, taking its customer base to 41.2 million. As per the current trend, India is adding an average of 9 million phone subscribers every month. --MP
